So how did an ex stand up comic end up writing a menopause book? Basically my hobby was bean sprouting, and growing baby greens, it was a great way of indoor gardening. I started giving talks about it at festivals because it meant I could get in for free. I was excited when growing red clover (as opposed to taking red clover pills) cured my hot flushes and I honestly thought I was writing a small pamphlet about it to sell at my talks. But I have this thing about research, I wanted to prove everything I said, so I started reading science papers, and learning scientific terms and slowly I let them take me on an incredible journey. The biggest thing I discovered the fertility industry (who really know about women’s bodies because they make babies) use a different model to for how menopause happens, that doesnt make it seem like a deficiency disease the way the HRT industry does because it wants us to believe that we need their pills. It’s completely revolutionary and I realise now that the book should have been more about that but I was too focussed on my sprouting. I did sometimes wonder how many people would want to grow their own HRT every week, and i was right to wonder, because although some people love my book, it has never become a best seller.

I admit I’m not doing all I can to publicise it. I could be on the internet all day commenting everytime someone mentions menopause but instead I’m writing a novel and the occasional song and plan to write another play one day. But I’m still here, I’m still sprouting, I’ve still got opinions about it all. I will do a sweep of the latest research every now and then and update you all.
